English 16th Century Painting

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
In the period where great strides were being made on the continent, what was going on in England?

Well, portraits were particularly prominent in this period; the Tudor court commissioned much of the painting that went on during the era.

Miniatures started to come into fashion towards the end of the century, with many talented artists specialising in this work.

Faces are reproduced realistically, and dress is very much that of the age; with long ornate and splendid garments.
