Do you have furniture, furnishings, or fixtures that are made of aluminum? Then you ought to take care of them from corrossion. if it turns a dull gray and has formed white crystals on it, then you’re in a bit of trouble. But it’s trouble that you can easily straighten out. All you will need are the following:
- fine sandpaper
- mineral spirits
- aluminum paint
- chromate primer
Set your aluminum furniture outside or lay out newspaper on the floor (or table). This will be your projct area.
Dip fine sandpaper in mineral spirits and rub at the white rystals and the grey discoloration until they are all gone. Rub the sandpaper on these areas until they’ve regained their brightness.
Get a clean rag dipped in mineral spirits and wipe the metal down. This will remove the debris left from the sandpapering. Allow the aluminum to completely dry.
Next, apply a chromate primer on the aluminum and set it aside until it is again, completely dry.
You can paint the aluminum or just leave it with the primer coating on it.
