Stock market investing has one simple benefit over most other forms: the potential for a large return on your investment.
Of course, this added benefit comes with added risk: the opposite can happen and you can end up losing all your money.
Contrast this with nice, safe investments such as putting money in a bank savings account: you know what rate you are getting and there is hardly any chance of losing your money, unless the bank goes bust or similar which is obviously very unlikely.
So, to put it simply, there is the chance to make more money with shares. Particularly over the longer term, 10 years plus, the stock market seems to outperform other investment mechanisms markedly.
Therefore if this trend continues then stock market investing with a percentage of your money seems like a sensible way to increase your savings for retirement.
